The journalists Support Committee condemns in the strongest terms the continued targeting and killing of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation, which has led to an increase in the number of journalist martyrs to (180 journalists) since the beginning of the aggression on the Gaza Strip, according to the government media office, after the death of:
- Journalist Saeed Radwan - head of digital media department at Al-Aqsa satellite channel
- Journalist Hamza Abu Salmiya-works as a journalist with Sanad news agency
- Journalist Hanin Mahmoud Baroud - works as a media and journalist at the Jerusalem Foundation
The committee stresses that the direct and deliberate targeting of journalists constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which guarantee the protection of journalists during armed conflicts, and shows the occupation's insistence on gagging mouths and preventing the transmission of the truth to the world, thereby depriving the public of access to information from Palestinian parties.
The committee holds the Israeli occupation fully responsible for these crimes against Palestinian journalists, and calls on the international community and international organizations concerned with press freedom to take effective and urgent steps to deter the occupation and prosecute it for its crimes, pressure it to stop these crimes that amount to genocide, and immediately stop targeting journalists.
It also stresses the need to Protect Journalists and provide a safe environment that enables them to play their role in covering events and conveying facts without fear of being targeted or threatened, and urges the international community to support this right and ensure that perpetrators do not go unpunished.
