The Union of Islamic radio and television condemns in the strongest terms the arrest by the Israeli occupation authorities of his colleague Nasser al-Lahham, director of the Office of Al-Mayadeen channel in Occupied Palestine, in a move that represents a flagrant violation of all international charters and laws that guarantee freedom of the press and human rights, especially under the occupation.
This arbitrary arrest is part of a long series of systematic attacks carried out by the occupation army against Palestinian and international journalists and media workers working in the occupied territories, in an open attempt to obscure the truth and obscure its daily crimes against the Palestinian people.
The Union emphasizes that the rights of media professionals are protected and protected under the provisions of international conventions, especially article seventy-ninth of the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions, which guarantees the safety of journalists, as well as the Universal Declaration of human rights on civil and Political Rights, which guarantees freedom of opinion and expression, without fear of repression or arrest.
The federation also reminds that the violations of the Israeli occupation against the press and media not only constitute a violation of international humanitarian laws, but also represent a real test of the sincerity of states, governments and organizations that raise the slogans of freedom, democracy and Human Rights.
In light of this reality, the union calls on all States, international organizations and human rights institutions to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities, and work hard to hold the occupation entity accountable, to stop the ongoing impunity, and ensure full protection for journalists and all civilians under occupation.
The Union of Islamic radio and television, reiterating its full solidarity with Al-Mayadeen TV, the family of colleague Nasser al-Lahham and all Palestinian journalists, calls on the Arab and international media to intensify their coverage of these violations and to keep the spotlight on the suffering of media workers in Occupied Palestine, in defense of the truth and freedom of speech, which the occupation is trying to silence by all illegal means.
Please accept the highest respect and appreciation
